Shops/restaurants are plentiful in Lanark (5 miles) and Biggar (8 miles). There is a Tesco and Somerfield in Lanark and a co-op and spa in Biggar.

The Tinto Hotel, Cornhill House Hotel, The Mill Inn and Lanark Loch Hotel (approx 4 miles) have bars, restaurants and steakhouse style meals. The Estate operates the Carmichael Visitor Centre and Farm Shop which provides fresh and frozen Estate farmed meats, organic milk, ready meals. soups, fresh local vegetables and other seasonal produce. The shop also stocks a range of Carmichael tartan souvenirs, gifts and greetings cards. Groceries from the Farm Shop can be pre ordered before you arrive to stay in a cottage at Carmichael. Venison, Beef and Lamb can also be pre-ordered for collection at th Farm Shop or Farmers' Markets

Open from 10am to 5pm Thursday to Sunday every week, the Tearoom at Carmichael Visitor Centre provides wholesome meals and snacks as well as a selection of organic teas and fairtrade coffees. There is Wifi braodband available in the shop so why not pop down to check your e mails during your stay.
