It's the 29th September already and the Autumn equinox is upon us with
our Saint's day today ! Happy Saint Michael's day to all Carmichaels
wherever you may be.
Historically in the Western Celtic Isles of
Scotland this day heralded the onset of winter and at the Airds Michael
on Lewis and at the ancient Caer Michael at Carmichael in Lanarkshire,
Carmichaels and indeed all followers of the Archangel celebrate this
their special Saints day !
We have had lots of Carmichael visitors
here at Carmichael in the post gathering weeks mostly staying a couple
of days in our cottages and exploring our ruins. It is satisfying after
nearly 30 years in extolling the virtues of the origins of our fine name
here at Carmichael Scotland that people are now searching us out from
Australia and New Zealand and Canada and the US. We really must be
succeeding in getting the message of the name origins across to a
broader spectrum !
Happy Saint Michael day 2010 and happy New Saint Michael year to all !
