We have had four deaths and a serious accident in our global family at Clan Carmichael this year.
MARK NIGRO died on January 17th in Houston Texas and will be sorely
missed by Alana, Carlie, Richie, Heather and Andrea and the whole of
Clan Carmichael. He was an inspiration to us all and lived life to the
full, embracing Carmichael entirely, getting married at gathering 1990
in a Carmichael kilt and coming on Highland tours to amongst others the
Inner Hebrides Islay an Colonsay in 2007 and the Bauge battlefields in
Anjou France in 2000. Although Clan Sycily is more mafiosa and Klan
Mississippi is again sinister, Mark understood family values Clan
Carmichael and enjoyed it to the full.
JACK CARMICHAEL died Thursday March 4th in Guatemala from a massive
thrombosis. Anne his wife and Diane his daughter and their five
grandchildren were at his bedside for his last moments and he was
cognisant to the end. Jack and Anne had been coming to Carmichael since
the early 1980's and had spent a month every summer here for decades
between then and now. We were part of his retirement plans and he loved
getting back to his family roots. His grandsons Beau and Christian
worked here one summer and Beau got married here. John Andrew's Dad,
Anne & Jack's son was killed in a tragic motorbike acident before
our first gathering and Anne came along alone to help prepare with Carol
Anne (Mickey's daughter) and piper Kris Carmichael, who played at
Mark's funeral near Carmichael Mississippi in late January.
We awarded Anne & Jack a dual crested shield at Gathering 2007 for
their long support. Anne the Armstrong and Jack the
Carmichael.Hereditary enemies never found such good lifetime spouses and
friends in Scotland today. We will certainy miss Jack and his ready
smile and interest our farming and his understanding good nature. ANNE
CARMICHAEL died six weeks later in Guatemala and ensured that they were
not parted for long.
We all missed Mark and Anne & Jack at Gathering 2010. Three
Carmichael lives partly devoted to making Carmichael famly history real
today !
We have also just heard that HELEN CARTER died in Maine in late May
2010. She had brought generations of her family to our gatherings in
previous years and again she will be sorely missed at future events.
Arthur & Jean Carmichael's grand-daughter ASHLEY CARMICHAEL
(daughter of Mike and Laurel) has had a tragic accident on the beach at
Carmichael castle Monteray California. The winter storms had been so
harsh that the stone beach defences were loose and a large rock rolled
onto her head whilst she was at the beach with a group of friends.
Extensive surgery and a Carmichael fighting spirit should win through
but our thoughts are with her in her long fight for recovery ! Richard
